Staff Positions and Dates

Staff must serve as an example to all campers and be willing and able to take responsibility for the safety and welfare of all campers, imparting camp rules, policies and traditions at all times. Staff must be able to work with a variety of staff members in a calm, collective, and collaborative manner. Staff must be able to participate in pre-camp orientation and ongoing training, as well as attend regular supervisory meetings throughout the summer. Staff must be able to accept guidance, constructive feedback and support from their supervisor, and be able to ask for help when needed. Staff must be able and willing to help plan, assist, and run activities as well as participate enthusiastically in all camp programs. Staff must adhere to goals, mission, and philosophy of Camp Seneca Lake.

Counselors will primarily be with a specific group of campers during the day while specialists will primarily be focused on their specialty area.  Counselors and specialists are jointly responsible for campers. Our programmers and leadership are the leaders of our community, and work in a variety of ways both in front and behind the scenes to make camp as magical as it is. Support staff are the backbone of our operations as they keep us healthy, fed and safe. It truly takes a village to run camp, and each staff member plays a vital role in our success.

Staff must have endurance including prolonged standing, bending, stooping, walking long distances, hiking, climbing and stretching; requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate outdoor equipment and camp activities; requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs. Must be able to overhead lift, move, push and/or pull up to 50 pounds and operate with daily exposure to sun, heat and varying weather conditions and animals such as bugs, snakes, bats, etc. Must be willing to live in a camp setting, work irregular hours and deliver camp programming in whatever facility is available.

Camp Seneca Lake offers competitive pay and staff are provided room & board in accordance with Federal, State and Local requirements. Staff live in same gender housing with bathroom/showers in their cabin and have adequate space for their belongings. International staff are provided sheets and towels. Laundry services are provided on a weekly basis free-of-charge. Staff are paid semi-monthly.
